Extensive Bird Watching
Birding in Masai Mara starts from the camp
The top birding sites in Kenya include the famous Masai Mara, the coastal strip, Lake Nakuru, Kakamega Forest, and the Northern arid habitat – Samburu Reserves and Lake Baringo. Different areas of the country have very different bird lists making Kenya a unique destination for birders to visit. In Masai Mara the birds are very easy to see and there’s lots of them. Our naturalist is quite knowledgeable and ready to point out interesting looking birds during the Nature walks or Safaris.
July to September is the best time of year for big game due to the Great Migration. Huge herds of wildebeest and zebra enter the Masai Mara and provide spectacular game watching. This also makes vultures much easier to find because of the numbers of animals that don’t survive the Migration. The Mara River, apart from having vicious crocodiles, there is always mixed flocks of vultures and Marabou feeding on the animals that failed to cross the river. Keep in mind that Mara Timbo Camp is close to the Mara River.
