Change camera for lions
How Mara Timbo directors left cameras for lions
Mara Timbo Camp is situated in worlds-famous Masai Mara and with its seven luxury tents is definitely a first class camp. The camp is owned and managed by the former German TV-Anchor, Michaela Papke and her husband Klaus Wilken. Michaela was the host in Germans RTL-Morning Show and later the host for „Die Redaktion“, a kind of ABC´s “60minutes” format on RTL 2. When they came to Kenya 2007 they were running their own TV Production called MediaWork TV near Munich.
“Everything with our TV-production in Germany was working out well. There was not a single reason to give it all up!” Michaela says, “but Kenya just put its spell on us!”
Because the country, its nature and it´s people were so impressive the couple got stuck after their six week Safari.
“The Safari was dreamlike and the lodges in which we stayed on the trip were beautiful“, Klaus remembers, “after half of the trip we did not only ask our driver to stop for zebras and lions anymore but also for timber and cement to find out about prices for building a camp.”
